Hi there - was the step sister’s husband ever punished for leaving him at home alone with a baby? I notice many people have commented on that!

I'd like to write more on this, thanks for the question. He was not punished by the police as far as I know, but that sort of parenting approach was more common in the 1980s. For example, I walked to school with just friends (no parents) from a younger age than 9. And at 11 I rode a bike to school with friends along a route that included a dual carriageway! When they were teenagers, some kids' parents went on holiday and left them at home. It wasn't common, but today it would be unheard of and possibly be a flag for social services. These same criticisms were made when Madeleine McCann was abducted and murdered. Possibly in the 1960s and 1970s people trusted neighbours even more than in the 1980s. It was a different time is all I can say, which is not to excuse it, but it wasn't an absolute no-no like it is now.
